šŸ‘‘ Self-love is not selfish

Plus: My go-to hydration cocktail

Whatā€™s up, Hustlers!Ā

Happy (almost) Valentineā€™s Day!

Today I'm reminding myself that self-love is NOT selfish.

I cherish the idea that you should befriend yourself before considering romantic love, friendships, or partnerships in the world.

I committed to self-love before even meeting my husband, and I have the tattoo to prove it.

Ā .WHAT Iā€™M JOURNALING ABOUT.Ā

Self-love. Self-love is the foundation for every relationship we will have in our lives. If we don't feel good within our own bones or the conversation between our ears doesnā€™t feel productive, healthy, and kind, then it will be difficult to engage in love with the world.

If you're struggling to reach a place of self-love or need to guide yourself back to a healthy conversation, journaling can be a helpful tool. Here are some prompts you can answer this week. ā¬‡ļøĀ

  • What are 3 things that make you feel JOY?

  • What personality trait do you love about yourself?

  • What is a characteristic that makes you unique?

  • Which relationships in your life are exhausting? Are you giving too much to someone and not receiving the same in return?

  • I feel the most confident whenā€¦

  • What can you forgive yourself for?

  • How can you make yourself a priority today?

Ā .WHAT Iā€™M THINKING ABOUT.Ā

All the ways to celebrate love. Showing love isnā€™t just about chocolates and flowers. We can show love to ourselves and to others in many ways. Hereā€™s how I plan to celebrate:

  • Staying consistent šŸ‹ļø Discipline is the highest form of self-love. Iā€™ll be rocking my normal workout routine.

  • Practicing self-careĀ šŸ«– Do whatever fills your cup. I plan to read, journal, and use the Jillian Dempsey Gold Bar and Confectionery Soaps Co candles for some relaxing spa vibes.

  • Spending quality time šŸ° You donā€™t have to have a fancy night out to spend time with your loved ones - just do something together that you both enjoy. Drew and I will whip up dinner with our favorite FireRoad meals and attempt to bake a vegan chocolate cake!

How will you show love this week? Hit reply and let me know!

Ā .WHAT Iā€™M SIPPING.Ā

My H20 morning cocktail! Speaking of self-careā€¦this drink is great for hydration, digestion, boosting energy levels, and replenishing electrolytes. I get excited to drink it every morning. All you need are a few minutes and a few simple ingredients. Hereā€™s what you need to make your own. ā¬‡ļøĀ

  • 8 oz. filtered room temperature water

  • 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar (I use Bragg's but any brand works as long as it has the ā€œmother,ā€ meaning it's fermented)

  • Juice from half a lemon

  • A pinch of sea salt

Ā .WHO Iā€™M LISTENING TO.Ā

Suleika Jaouad On Why Survival Is A Creative Act: On the Rich Roll Podcast, Suleika shares how creativity became her beacon through adversity. Diagnosed with leukemia at 22, she used journaling and writing for agency and healing. Throughout the podcast, Suleika describes life not as a series of befores and afters, but as a continuous flow of gradual transitions, where messiness and uncertainty are inherent. Her story is a testament to the power of loving fiercely, finding strength in adversity and transforming doubt into determination.

Question:Ā Iā€™m looking to make a big career change but not sure what I want to do with my next step. Can you share how you figured it out? How did you know it was the right move?Ā

ā€” Heidi

Answer: First, major kudos to you for embracing your own power and being ready to make a bold pivot. That's the essence of it all! Just recently, I spoke on this subject at the Women's and Men's Health Strength in Diversity Summit. Here are my tips:

1. Quiet the inner voice that makes you doubt yourself. Be brave enough to listen to the little whispers in your head that are guiding you to a new direction.

2. Try journaling and vision boarding. Put pen to paper. Visualize how your next phase will look and feel like.

3. Stay consistent. Consistency trumps intensity every time. Continue to put one foot in front of the other.

4. Embrace being a beginner. Donā€™t be discouraged that things feel new. Embrace the time to listen and learn.

5. Trust in your 'wolf pack.' Invite feedback from trusted sources. Donā€™t only accept what you want to hear.

6. Ask yourself three questions when mulling over your next step. Why not me? What is my why? What decisions would I make if I was twice as strong and twice as confident?

7. Stay curious. When you are in a new environment you never know who could be teaching you something. Encourage curiosity.

8. Never stop learning. Embrace the uncertainty of a new phase and welcome the opportunity to learn and grow.
